How much is the charge?

This is an indirect tax on buildings or properties in Hong Kong. "Rates" originally refers to the wages and salaries of police officers. The rates tax is earmarked for special purposes. Initially, it was mainly used for police expenses, and later it was expanded to pay for municipal expenses such as street lamps, water supply and fire fighting. The taxpayer is the occupier (user) of the building or real estate, and the tax basis is the estimated reasonable rental value of the real estate every year, which is estimated once a year.

Note: Compared with other countries and regions, there are fewer taxes in Hong Kong, and most of them are direct taxes, which are divided into four categories: income tax, property tax, consumption tax, customs duty and behavior tax.
