Li Er in the Spring and Autumn Period was the first person surnamed Li in the official history. From the end of the Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties, some people surnamed Li from Henan entered Fujian with Wang Chao brothers, settled in Putian and Jinjiang, then branched to Ninghua, Shanghang, Shaowu and Liu Qing, and then developed westward, distributed in some places in Guangdong and Guangxi. After the Tang Dynasty, due to various reasons, Li migrated more frequently and distributed more widely. Most Li people who migrated to the south of the Yangtze River lived in Zhejiang and Jiangsu, followed by Li people who migrated to Shanghai, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Li's surname had spread all over the country. Except in Chinese mainland, Li is still one of the few surnames that form a big family overseas.
