The origin of Chang 'an University can be traced back to Northwest United University, and 1938 was founded in Xi 'an. Later, it was renamed and adjusted many times and became the present Chang 'an University. Historically, Chang 'an University has always used the name "Xi 'an Highway Jiaotong University". Chang 'an University changed its name to better reflect its historical evolution and development process, and at the same time, it can enhance its popularity and influence.

Chang 'an University, a university directly under the Ministry of Education, is the first batch of national key universities in "2 1 1 Project", the national "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" and the national "double-class" university.
