Professional property management in Hong Kong also originated in Britain, and has made new development according to local conditions. In 1960s, Hong Kong's economy took off, the population surged, the infrastructure was backward, and the housing was very tight, which led to the deterioration of the living environment. For this reason, the Hong Kong government began to build public housing villages, and some citizens set up some non-profit-making organizations, such as the Hong Kong Housing Society, to build some low-rent housing to alleviate the housing problem of the middle and lower classes. In order to manage these housing estates, the government and institutions began to introduce property management talents, management concepts and methods from Britain. 1966, Hong Kong property practitioners set up the Royal Institute of Property Managers Hong Kong Branch.
