Wang Xueqin's evaluation

1938, the Japanese army marched north and south along the Jin-Pu Railway and attacked Xuzhou, a strategic place. The famous battle of Xuzhou started. Suzhou, as an important town on the Jin-Pu Railway and the south gate of Xuzhou, was violently attacked by the Japanese army. Facing the invaders armed to the teeth, Suzhou soldiers and civilians were on the verge of enemies, stubbornly stopped the Japanese army and wrote a magnificent national anthem with flesh and blood. In today's Xiaoxian Martyrs Cemetery, the statue of Wang Xueqin stands tall, and Xiaoxian people erect a statue for him, always remembering the county magistrate of the National Government who died in the 1938 Xiaoxian Defence War.

On May 1938 and 15, the 1st Brigade of the 9th Japanese Division invaded Xiaoxian from Germany in two ways and arrived near Xiaoxian that night. Enemy at the Gates, the Japanese army, was guarded by exhausted troops. At that time, Li Zongren ordered Li, the commander of the 32nd Army of the National Revolutionary Army 139, to withdraw from the Battle of Taierzhuang and defend Xiaoxian. At that time, there were more than 2,000 people left in the 139 Division, with no heavy weapons and no time to rest. Facing the crazy invasion of the Japanese army, the defenders of Xiaoxian County were fearless, and Wang Xueqin, the county magistrate, even issued an oath of "surviving with the county". Xiaoxian county is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the three mountain systems of Dragon, Tiger and Phoenix surround Xiaoxian county like dustpans. Taking advantage of this favorable terrain, the defenders built fortifications with the assistance of local people led by Wang Xueqin county magistrate.

15 noon, 139 division arrived in Xiaoxian County and began to build fortifications. Wang Xueqin, the county magistrate, led the county standing brigade to assist 139 Division in building fortifications and guarding the city. /kloc-in the early morning of 0/6, the Japanese army stormed Xiaoxian under the cover of heavy artillery and tanks. The defenders of China took advantage of the terrain and resisted tenaciously. The two sides started a tug-of-war, and the Japanese army could not attack for a long time. At the height of fierce fighting in Xiaoxian County, Zhang Zizhong, a famous anti-Japanese soldier, led an army to help Xiaoxian County urgently. Zhang Zizhong came from Suixi to reinforce Xiaoxian. He led a brigade to Erzhuang, which is only six or seven miles away from Xiaoxian County, and met Japanese reinforcements. There was a fierce battle between the two sides. Zhang Zizhong is a famous anti-Japanese star. After a battle, he beat the Japanese out of the water. In the face of Zhang Zizhong's brave and skillful troops, the Japanese openly violated international conventions and used chemical weapons on a large scale on the battlefield. The Japanese army released poison gas on a large scale, and a large number of Zhang Zizhong soldiers were poisoned and lost their combat effectiveness. In desperation, they had to evacuate. China reinforcements retreated, and the Japanese army stepped up its attack on Xiaoxian. Under the repeated bombardment of Japanese heavy weapons, the defensive positions outside Xiaoxian County were destroyed, and the defenders in China suffered heavy casualties. More than a thousand people, including Chief of Staff Deng Zuoyu and Deputy Brigadier Lu Rushuang, died heroically. Longshan Park in Xiaoxian was the last defensive position of our army outside Xiaoxian at that time. In the early morning of May 1938, the Japanese army seized the defensive position of Longshan County and used tanks to break through the north gate of Xiaoxian County and enter the urban area.

The Japanese army invaded the county seat, and the soldiers and civilians guarding the city did not retreat. They used houses and alleys to wage fierce street battles with the Japanese army. By noon that day, most of the defenders were killed or injured, and they broke through and retreated. Xiaoxian fell. When the county magistrate of Wang Xueqin retreated, his leg was injured. One of his guards carried him out from a place called Eighteen Stools at the junction of Longshan and Fengshan. At that time, both inside and outside the city were occupied by the Japanese, and Wang Xueqin county magistrate was killed by the Japanese with heavy machine guns in the cornfield.

Wang Xueqin county magistrate shed his last drop of blood to fight the invaders, and he fulfilled his oath with his life. Together with the soldiers who died in the defending battle of Xiaoxian, he will be remembered by the local people forever.
