Is there a law about pets?

Yes Article 106 of the Animal Protection Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) (Prohibition of the Use of Animals) prohibits the use of the following animals for display, performance, sports or other work:

(1) Female animals during pregnancy and lactation, birds during incubation and brooding, reptiles and amphibians during spawning;

(2) Animals that are sick or injured, and animals that are depressed.

Article 107 (Prohibition of cruelty to animals):

(1) It is forbidden to use violent means such as kicking and hitting. Causing animals to be injured or abused to drive them to perform or compete.

(2) It is forbidden to electrocute animals, except in cases where animals may cause urgent harm to public safety.

(3) It is forbidden to maltreat animals by fasting or drinking water, and it is forbidden to force animals to engage in labor or performance beyond their natural abilities.

(5) It is forbidden to entice animals to kill and hurt each other for the purpose of viewing or operating.

(6) It is forbidden to feed small animals to carnivores in public places for the purpose of viewing or operation, which will cause fright, panic, injury and death to animals.

(seven) it is forbidden to change the appearance of animals in harmful ways such as nail pulling and tooth extraction for the purpose of viewing and taking pictures.

(eight) it is forbidden to condone tourists and the public to scare or hurt animals. It is forbidden to target live animals and condone tourists to kill, molest or hurt animals with guns, bows and arrows, sticks, etc.

Article 64 of the Animal Protection Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) (Standardizing Feeding) The state practices a policy of standardizing the feeding of dogs and cats. In order to ensure public health and public safety in urban and rural areas, the municipal and county people's governments may stipulate the maximum number of dogs and cats per household.

People's governments at all levels shall hold hearings when delineating areas where cats and dogs are prohibited or restricted and areas where outdoor activities of cats and dogs are prohibited or restricted within urban areas. The hearing shall be attended by representatives of animal protection organizations and pet owners.

Article 65 (Key Administrative Zones and General Administrative Zones) The people's government of a city may designate key administrative zones and general administrative zones for raising dogs and cats in cities and towns.

Residents in key management areas are not allowed to keep strong dogs and large dogs. The specific product name, body height and body length standards for prohibiting raising dogs shall be determined by the animal husbandry and veterinary administrative department of the State Council and announced to the public.

Organs, units, groups or organizations in key management areas that need to raise strong dogs and large dogs due to special work must be approved by the public security organs and register for raising dogs. The sale, breeding and exhibition of strong dogs are prohibited in key management areas.

Article 66 (Community Participation) The State encourages residents' committees, villagers' committees and owners' committees to carry out publicity, education and mediation on pet protection and management, enhance the sense of responsibility of pet owners, protect and rescue stray cats and dogs, take care of the interests of people without pets and reduce social disputes.

Residents' committees, villagers' committees and owners' committees may convene residents' meetings, villagers' meetings and owners' meetings, formulate a convention on the management of dogs and cats in this residential area according to law, stipulate the behavioral requirements and liability for breach of contract, and organize and supervise the implementation. Residents, villagers and owners shall abide by this Convention.
