Research direction of landscape architecture

Landscape architecture includes six research directions: landscape architecture history and theory, landscape design, landscape planning and ecological restoration, landscape protection, plants and planting, landscape engineering and technology.

History and theory of landscape architecture: it is a basic subject to study the origin, evolution, development and change of landscape architecture and its reasons, as well as its basic connotation, value system and application theory. The theoretical basis of the historical direction of landscape architecture is history. Through recording, analysis and evaluation, the historical system of landscape architecture itself is constructed. Research fields include: the history of classical gardens in China, the history of foreign classical gardens, the history of modern landscape architecture in China, the history of modern western landscape architecture and the history of landscape architecture. The theoretical basis of the theoretical direction of landscape architecture is a wide range of natural sciences and humanities and arts disciplines such as aesthetics, ethics, sociology, ecology, design and management. Research fields include: landscape architecture theory, landscape architecture aesthetics, landscape architecture criticism, landscape architecture post-use evaluation, landscape architecture natural system theory, landscape architecture social system theory, landscape architecture policies, regulations and management.

Landscape architecture planning and design is an applied subject to create small and medium-sized outdoor leisure space. It aims to meet people's needs for various spaces and places for outdoor activities. Through site analysis, functional integration and research on relevant socio-economic and cultural factors, it creates a comfortable and beautiful outdoor living environment with holistic design, giving people spiritual and aesthetic pleasure. This subject has a long history and is the core component of landscape architecture. The scope of research and practice includes park green space, road green space, residential green space, green space attached to public facilities, gardens, roof gardens, indoor gardens, memorial gardens and landscapes, city squares, street landscapes, waterfront landscapes, landscape buildings and landscape structures.

Landscape planning and ecological restoration: With the goal of maintaining the health and safety of human habitation and ecological environment, multi-level research and practice are carried out on the scale of biosphere, land, region, town and community. The main work areas include regional landscape planning, wetland ecological restoration, tourist area planning, green infrastructure planning, urban green space system planning and urban green line delineation.

Landscape architecture heritage protection: it is a discipline to protect and manage landscape architecture with heritage value and important ecological service function. The objects of practice include not only traditional gardens, natural heritage, natural and cultural mixed heritage, cultural landscape, local landscape, scenic spots, geological parks, heritage parks and other heritage areas, but also nature reserves, forest parks, river corridors, animal and plant habitats, wilderness and other areas with important ecological service functions. This paper mainly studies the protection and restoration of traditional gardens, the value identification and protection management of heritage sites, the investigation and protection management of landscape resources in protected areas, the network protection management of heritage sites and protected areas, the protection management of ecological service functional areas, and the behavior management of tourists in tourist areas.

Garden plants and their application: it is an applied discipline to study plant materials and their conservation, which is suitable for urban and rural green spaces, tourist resorts, interior decoration applications, ecological protection, soil and water conservation, land reclamation and so on. The research scope includes the diversity and protection of urban garden plants, the planning of urban garden tree species, the allocation of garden plants, the collection and genetic breeding of garden plant resources, the cultivation and conservation of garden plants, the physiological and ecological analysis of garden plants, the protection of ancient and famous trees, horticultural therapy, the restoration of vegetation in damaged sites, the planting project of soil and water conservation, and the construction of shelter belts.

Landscape Architecture Engineering and Technology: It is an applied discipline that studies the technical principle, material production, engineering construction and maintenance management of landscape architecture protection and utilization, and it is highly comprehensive and cross-cutting. The scope of research and practice includes earthwork, building engineering, water supply and drainage engineering, lighting engineering, weak current engineering, waterscape engineering, planting technology, rockery and rockfill technology, green space conservation, pest control, special habitat greening, artificial wetland construction and ecological restoration and maintenance of water environment, land reclamation and ecological restoration, green space disaster prevention and avoidance, outdoor microclimate construction, visual environmental impact assessment, etc.
