5.9 The hoistway shall be equipped with permanent electric lighting devices, and even when all doors are closed, the illumination above the car top surface and above the pit floor 1m shall be at least 50lx.

The arrangement of lighting devices should be as follows: install a lamp within 0.50m of the highest and lowest points of the shaft, and install an intermediate lamp, with the middle not exceeding 7 m. For the shaft partially closed by 5.2. 1.2, if there is enough electric lighting near the shaft, it is not necessary to provide lighting in the shaft.
