Xiangtan University has no full-time junior college, and there are undergraduate, graduate and international students at the full-time school level. Continuing education has a major, which is a part-time major.

Xiangtan University is a high-level university and characteristic discipline supported by the Ministry of Education and Hunan Province. The first-class universities in Hunan Province are jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Hunan Province (Class A). Xiangtan University was founded in 1958 and 1978, and was identified as a national 16 comprehensive key university in arts and sciences by the State Council.
