Brief introduction to the function of Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty

Fang is a residential area, and the city is a commercial area, which is separate from the city square. There were two markets in the Tang Dynasty, the East Market and the West Market. There are "two hundred and twenty rows, houses standing on all sides, and strange places all around, all gathering together" in the East City.

The square market system is mainly manifested in the strict separation of residential areas (squares) and trading areas (cities), and the laws and systems strictly control the time and place of trading. In the Tang Dynasty, the city implemented a strict market system, separated the commercial areas from the residents, and prohibited doing business in the residential areas.
