History of Yudong Tutang Town, Haimen City, Jiangsu Province

Fish Cave is located in the east of the northern part of Haimen City, with Changbao and Yuelai in the east, Zhengyi in the north, Changle in the south and Sijia in the west. It is an ancient town that best represents Tongdong culture.

The fish cave was called "Fengcheng" in ancient times, which began in the Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Northern Song Dynasty and Ming and Qing Dynasties.

The pattern of the ancient town is still clearly visible today. The old city covers an area of 0.62 square kilometers, and the old street runs north and south, about 800 meters long and 3 meters wide. It is paved by more than 265,438+000 stone strips, and the shops in the street are connected. On both sides, there are more than 20 alleys, such as salt shops, tangzi and eighteen bends.

There are two stone bridges on Hecheng River, Baoan Bridge and Taian Bridge, which were built in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The stone tablet built on Baoan Bridge in the fourth year of Qianlong (A.D. 1739) is discernible.

There are many historical sites in the ancient town, such as Dongyue Temple (Faguang Temple, also called Donghuang Temple by locals), Furong Pool, Wenchang Palace and Cui Tong's former residence. The ancient town is known as a living fossil that inherits the folk customs and culture of Tongdong.
