Huang's art of returning home

In the spring of 2006, he returned to his ancestral home in Shi Fo Village, the western suburb of Zhengzhou City, and established the Shi Fo Art Commune.

"Because Shi Fo Village is my hometown, the traditional culture in Henan is more than enough, and the contemporary culture is not enough. So I chose to come back to the stone Buddha and want to make it an international contemporary art village. "

Mr. Huang built a studio of more than 200 square meters in his home. Since then, Shi Fo Village has inspired him to create such paintings as Sedimentation Tank, Shi Fo Bean and Woodpecker. When talking about the oil painting Woodpecker, Huang said:

I painted this woodpecker because I can see and hear a woodpecker pecking at a big tree outside my window every day, including the fish and beans I painted, which are all things around me and I am most interested in.

He showed his creativity and ideas through the internet and held a solo exhibition, which attracted a large number of artists to visit. Henan painters Wang Yiding and Su Xiaoshi, Gansu painter Feng Jing and Shaanxi painter Pei Kai set up studios in Shi Fo Village. By the end of 2008, more than 100 artists had settled in the village, and Huang became their mentor, thus forming the "Henan Art Commune".

Mr. Huang, an art teacher at Huanghe University of Science and Technology, was deeply touched: "Because so many friends came to this place for the first time, and Mr. Huang happened to come to this place for the second time, he brought some international artists to exchange and give lectures, including exhibitions, and felt that his works had made a breakthrough. Then he gradually felt that time was running out. This summer (2008), I quit my job, and now I am here full-time to concentrate on painting. "

In this way, Shifo Village, like Songzhuang Village in China, began to move from a natural village to an art village. It was in May 2006 that these artists who were integrated into Shifo Village carried forward the fine tradition of China Army and held a joint exhibition of "Three Disciplines and Eight Notices". In June 2006, a collective exhibition was organized. In April 2007, on the anniversary of the establishment of the Stone Buddha Art Commune, the exhibition "This House and That Courtyard" was held, which was a sensation. Villagers who haven't had a chance to prepare are suddenly pushed into the camera, and a great sense of luck begins to stir in their hearts. Some nosy Zhuang also crowded into the crowd to watch the excitement. When artists talk about art, their neighbors' uncles and aunts also stretch their ears to listen, and some want to open pubs, picture frame factories and galleries, vying for discounts to "tailor-made" studios for artists!
