According to Baidu Encyclopedia, Wuzhishan City is a county-level city directly under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province, located in the hinterland of Wuzhishan in the south-central part of Hainan Island. Wuzhishan City was formerly known as Tongshi City (county-level) approved by the State Council in June, 1986, and was renamed Wuzhishan City in July, 2006. Wuzhishan City is the symbol of Hainan Island, and its main peak is in Tongshi City. The famous scenic spots in Wuzhishan City are: Wuzhishan Red Canyon Cultural Tourism Zone, Wuzhishan Revolutionary Base Memorial Park and Hainan National Museum.
