Guyuanfu and Guyuanwei were established in the Ming Dynasty, and Guyuan Inspection Department was established in the tenth year of the Ming Dynasty (1445), named after Yuanzhou, and changed from taboo to reality. 1939, the Guhai incident (three uprisings of the Hui people in Guhai) was brutally suppressed by the Kuomintang. 1942, the National Government established Xiji County in the border areas of Guyuan, Haiyuan, Longde, Jingning and Huining counties in Gansu, and designated Nihe and Zhangyi villages in Guyuan as Xiji County.
