Beijing Sport University is located in Haidian District, Beijing, directly under the State Sports General Administration. It is the first batch of national key universities determined by the State Council after the founding of New China. It is a national "double-first-class" construction university and a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university, and has been selected into the "Academic Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Program".

The school was founded in 1952, and the opening ceremony was held in 1953. Formerly known as Central Institute of Physical Education, 1956 was renamed Beijing Institute of Physical Education, and 1993 was renamed Beijing Sport University.
