The Xinhuang West Station of the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway is an intermediate station. The center mileage of the station is DK423+630. The station building is located on the south side of the line, and the station slope is flat. This station has 2 arrival and departure lines with an effective length of 650m; 2 side platforms of 450×9×1.25m; and 1 passenger tunnel at the center of the station.

A maintenance point is set up on the same left side of the station. There is a parking line for large-scale road maintenance machinery and a parking line for confirmation vehicles in the maintenance point.

Integrate existing roads, relocate and design interchange frame culverts to facilitate north-south connectivity.

The station is located in a mountainous area with crisscrossed ravines and a well-developed drainage system. Water can be collected through side ditches and discharged into the ravines at both ends of the station.

In December 2014, the Changsha-Xinhuang section of the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway was completed and opened to traffic.
