What's the difference between a java programmer and a java software development engineer (is a software engineer the same as java development)?

It is the same. Software development engineers are more written and formal, and programmers are more colloquial and casual. General recruitment information needs JAVA software development engineers. But the working environment usually just says find me a JAVA programmer.
