The duties of the Intermediate Court are as follows:

1, to hear civil and administrative cases under the jurisdiction of our court and cases transferred to the higher people's court for trial according to law;

2. The court at or above the intermediate level tries criminal, civil and administrative cases put forward by the parties, and the people's procuratorate tries cases of commutation and parole according to the retrial application and protest put forward by the trial supervision procedure;

3. Accepting state compensation cases and deciding state compensation according to law;

4. The superior court shall designate jurisdiction for cases with unclear jurisdiction of the lower people's court according to law and try cases with disputed jurisdiction;

5. To execute legally effective judgments and rulings and cases applied for execution by state administrative organs according to law.

Legal basis: Article 344 of the Criminal Procedure Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).

Death penalty cases submitted to the Supreme People's Court for approval shall be handled separately according to the following circumstances:

(1) In a case of first instance in which the intermediate people's court sentenced the death penalty, if the defendant fails to appeal and the people's procuratorate fails to protest, it shall report to the higher people's court for review within ten days after the expiration of the appeal and protest. If the Higher People's Court agrees to impose the death penalty, it shall report to the Supreme People's Court for approval within ten days after making a ruling; If he refuses to accept it, he shall be arraigned or remanded for retrial in accordance with the procedure of second instance;

(2) In a case of first instance in which the intermediate people's court sentenced the death penalty, if the defendant appealed or the people's procuratorate protested, and the higher people's court ruled to maintain it, it shall report to the Supreme People's Court for approval within ten days after the ruling was made;

(3) In a case of first instance in which the higher people's court sentenced the death penalty, if the defendant does not appeal and the people's procuratorate does not protest, it shall report to the Supreme People's Court for approval within ten days after the expiration of the appeal and protest.
