Wuhu Sansheng Temple

Three miles east from the original site of "Baima Cave" is the famous "Sansheng Ancient Temple". There is a beautiful legend about the origin of "Three Saints Ancient Temple". According to legend, during the Northern Song Dynasty, three enlightened monks passed by Jiuzi (the ancient name of Wuhu). When they reached Baima Mountain, they were attracted by the beautiful scenery of "Baima Cave Sky" and were about to go up the mountain to have some fun. Suddenly, there was lightning and thunder in the sky. , there was a sudden heavy rain, and the three of them hurriedly hid under a ginkgo tree near the corner of the mountain. At this moment, a white light flashed in the sky, and a thunder exploded, knocking down the ginkgo tree, but the three monks were unharmed. One of the monks suddenly saw the Buddha's light shining in the west, and vaguely seemed to see Guanyin Bodhisattva smiling at them. The three of them quickly fell to the ground and thanked the Bodhisattva for his blessing. After the local people learned about this, they built a temple where they took shelter from the rain to facilitate the faithful men and women to offer incense and take shelter from the rain. In order to commemorate those three eminent monks, it was named "Sansheng Temple". This matter reached the ears of Song Huizong, who happily wrote and wrote "Three Saints Ancient Temple". For a time, the incense was very prosperous. By the Yuan Dynasty, "Sansheng Ancient Temple" and "White Horse Cave Sky" had become famous local attractions. At that time, Ouyang Xuan, the county governor of Wuhu County, wrote a poem to describe its beautiful scenery. Among them, "Purple swallows fly as if they have an appointment, but jade birds gallop away without leaving a trace" has become a famous saying.

The "Three Saints Ancient Temple" has been damaged by wars and repaired several times. The most serious situation was in the early Ming Dynasty. Due to the war, the "Three Saints Ancient Temple" had been destroyed, and the original site was already broken walls and tiles, and overgrown with weeds. Until the Chenghua period, a man named Ge Zhikuan worked among the people for more than 20 years and raised money to restore the "Three Saints Ancient Temple". The "Sansheng Ancient Temple" has become a gathering place for local pilgrims, and the incense is very strong.

The "Three Saints Ancient Temple" was destroyed again before liberation and no longer exists. After the reform and opening up, several religious men and women living at the foot of Baima Mountain built a temple not far from the original "Three Saints Ancient Temple" without the approval of the relevant departments, burned incense and worshiped Buddha, and later demolished it by the relevant departments. In July 1993, Zhao Shifang and other lay people from Baima Mountain, Yongsheng Village, and Silian Administrative Village came to the Bronze Buddha Temple in Dongliang Mountain, Wuhu, and invited Shi Ciyun, the abbot of the temple, to come to the foot of Baima Mountain to preside over the "Three The restoration work of the Holy Ancient Temple. The historic "Sansheng Ancient Temple" was renovated. The reconstruction work of "Three Saints Ancient Temple" has been officially completed.

On January 24, 1995, the Wuhu County Buddhist Association was established by the Wuhu County Religious Affairs Bureau and the United Front Work Department. Shi Ciyun served as the president, executive director, and member of the CPPCC. "Shenggu Temple" was officially opened to the public. The temple fairs held twice a month in the "Sansheng Ancient Temple" are crowded with pilgrims and tourists, and the incense is strong. Buddhist believers from all over the country were welcomed.
