To apply for the certificate of competency of the chief engineer above 3000 kilowatts, one should have 24 months' experience as the chief engineer on a ship of the corresponding class, including 0/2 months' experience as the chief mate or chief engineer on a ship of the corresponding class.

A valid application for the certificate of competency for the chief engineer of 3000 kW or above shall have the experience of being the chief engineer 12 months on a ship of the corresponding class, including the experience of being the first mate or chief engineer for 6 months on a ship of the corresponding class.
