The Historical Evolution of Guangfu Temple in Chongming

Guangfu Temple Historical Guangfu Temple was founded in Xianfeng period of Qing Dynasty, formerly known as "Wu Temple", and its original site was in the north of Jibang Town. In the tenth year of the Republic of China, the Taoist priest lived here, gained great fame and devoted himself to the pure land. 1946, Guangfu Temple moved south to Zhongxing Town, and his disciple Master Ye Cheng inherited the abbot and Pope Tiantai and returned to the pure land. 1985, the temple was changed to a flower picking station, and the Buddhist ceremony stopped. However, it has always been believed that Master Ke Shaoshi should learn from Jianzhai Temple and never give up for 30 years. During the period of 1989, Zhao Puchu, president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, visited Chongming. Taking this opportunity, Guangfu Lecture Hall opened the second department of Shanghai Buddhist College, which was taught by Master Chang Ding personally, and delivered a group of outstanding monks to the jungle. In order to make the college jungle, supporting facilities such as Daxiong Hall, teaching building and living building were built from 1993. Thanks to the generous help of Hong Kong's Wu Jianqing and Shaanxi's Yue, the autumn of 1994 was a complete success. 1998, Guangfu Temple was completed in Tianwang Temple. In 2007, Master Xuanguang (Ming Zong) was unanimously elected as the abbot of the temple by monks in Guangfu Temple.
