Is there any way to detect children's amblyopia at home?

Does the baby have oblique amblyopia? Parents can use some methods for preliminary screening and self-test.

Experts from the optometry center of Huai 'an Shuguang Hospital teach you four simple self-test methods, which can be completed at home:

Inspection method of eye chart:

1. Hang an eye chart on the well-lit wall at home and cover the children's eyes at a distance of 5 meters for them to identify.

2. If the child's vision has not reached 0.5 at the age of 3-5 and 0.7 at the age of 6, it is necessary to take the child for further amblyopia diagnosis.

Methods of observing abnormal phenomena:

1, like to lean together when watching TV, or squint at things, so you need to be alert to amblyopia.

2, eyeball asymmetry, at first glance, there is no god or white eyes, you need to pay attention to whether there is strabismus when looking at things.

Masking test method:

1. Cover the child's right eye and left eye with an eye patch or gauze, and observe whether the mood and visual situation have changed.

2. When one eye of the child is covered and the child plays without any unnatural performance, it means that the child's vision is fine.

3. On the contrary, the child is fidgety and crying, tears the blindfold with his hand, or often falls down when walking, and always can't get anything, indicating that the eyes without blindfold have poor vision.

Flashlight detection method:

1, let the children straighten their heads and face the flashlight (ordinary household flashlight).

2. Shine the flashlight on the child's two black eyeballs and observe the position of the light spots on the black eyeballs.

3. If you look at the two light spots in the middle of black eyes, it means that the child is not squint. On the other hand, he suffers from strabismus.

If you find that your child has strabismus, amblyopia, myopia and other eye diseases, you should intervene as soon as possible. The sooner you find it, the sooner you treat it, the better. Generally speaking, the suitable age for the treatment of strabismus amblyopia is 2-6 years old, and the curative effect is poor when it is over 6 years old, and it is difficult to obtain curative effect when it is over 12 years old.
