Read Feng's prose
I have known Mr. Feng for five or six years, but I don't have much contact with him at ordinary times. Because they are all people who help the wind and like literature and writing, the psychological distance is not too far. Over the years, I have only met him twice, and each time I met him for a short time.
It seems that we first met in the summer of 2007. At that time, we just met each other online. He entrusted me to buy him a stomach medicine called "Livzon Changle" in Xi 'an's drugstore, saying that I couldn't find it after searching for Ankang, and taking other medicine didn't work. On the same day, I used lunch time to go to the pharmacy to buy the medicine and mail it to the address he provided. He quickly credited the medicine to my bank card. One afternoon not long after, I got a call from Mr. Feng when I got off work. He said he came to Xi on business and wanted to drop in on him. I met him in a hotel near Yang Jiacun, Chang 'an South Road, Xi 'an: of medium build, with rough facial features and a "general's belly". The first impression he gave me was not like a scholar, but a "Qin figurine" unearthed underground in Lintong. After some greetings and discussions, my feelings for him were suddenly changed by his behavior and conversation. He gave an authentic talk, which made me feel very cordial. He enthusiastically asked me about my work, life and writing, and sent me a magazine, saying that there was one of his articles in it. After chatting for an hour or so, we went to a nearby restaurant to have a casual oil-sprinkled noodles and casually pulled some home-cooked dishes. After dinner, I got up and left because of something. He told me earnestly that I must insist on reading and writing, and said that I hope to have more contact in the future.
Since that meeting, my contact with Mr. Feng has been intermittent for several years. Because he is in Ziyang county, I am in Xi 'an provincial capital, not in the same district, and everyone is very busy, so we seldom talk on the phone at ordinary times, and occasionally meeting online is just a few simple greetings, leaving messages on the blog and commenting on a post. Besides, there seems to be nothing to remember.
One afternoon less than a month ago, I was still in Weinan on business. On the way back to Ann, I suddenly received a phone call from Mr. Feng, saying that he had come to Ann and brought me his first collection of essays published at the end of September this year, so that I could pick it up when I was free. After eight o'clock, I returned to Beishanmen Village in Xi 'an, feeling very tired. I wanted to go to bed early, but it suddenly occurred to me that it was not easy for Mr. Feng to come. I should meet him. So I called my friend Yajun Sun, who also lives in Beishanmen Village, and took a taxi to a hotel in High-tech Zone to visit Mr. Feng. When we arrived at the hotel, Mr. Feng had not returned from dinner, so we sat in the hall and waited for a long time before seeing him. He was accompanied by a young man under forty. After entering the room, Mr. Feng introduced that this person is Yongchun Yang, a student he once took and a helper. Now he is the office director of a group company in Xi 'an, and usually likes to write some articles. I also introduced Sun Yajun, and we exchanged greetings for a long time.
After we sat down, we talked about literature. Although Mr. Feng has been in Ziyang, Ankang for many years, he still speaks an authentic Guanzhong Fufeng dialect. His voice was very loud. When he talked about excitement, he suddenly stood up from the stool and waved his arms vigorously, looking passionate. First of all, he evaluated the works of Chen, Ping Wa, Lu Yao, Zou and other "big names" in Shaanxi contemporary literary circles. He said that he had contacts with all these people, but Chen was his favorite. Chen is a Guanzhong native, simple and kind, and his works are vicissitudes, heavy and atmospheric. In particular, his novel White Deer Plain is one of the most successful and influential works in previous Mao Awards. I made several plays in Beijing a few years ago, and it is said that this year it will soon be made into a movie. He also said that he had read White Deer Plain four or five times, but he was still not tired of reading it. The more he looks at it, the more interesting it becomes. Bai Jiaxuan, Lu San, Tian Xiaoe and other characters in the novel are vividly portrayed. I asked him what classical literature he liked to read, and he said: I like to read four classical novels, especially The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which has many characters, grand scenes and complicated plots, but Luo Guanzhong has a good grasp of it. Many strategies and stories in this book are also very inspiring to us modern people, so we should study hard.
Mr. Feng finally talked about my writing. He said that he was surprised after reading more than a dozen articles I wrote recently on the Internet. He thinks my writing style has changed a lot at once. Compared with previous writing, it is more complicated, more rigorous in structure, more ingenious in conception and broader in vision. The whole product looks very atmospheric, beautiful and durable. His praise made me feel a little embarrassed. I explained that in the first half of this year, I have been busy with my work and seldom read or write. I have never been inspired in my mind and I don't know what to write, but I am very upset when I don't write. By the end of the year, I had a little leisure at work, read a lot of books, made some new thinking and positioning for myself, and my inspiration was inspired at once. So I've written a lot recently, but I'm still in the groping stage. There must be many problems. I hope you can give us more valuable advice. He said, I remember Pingwa once wrote a sentence to encourage Wu, a famous writer of Fufeng nationality and the current chairman of the Writers Association: "When the wind blows, we will raise more shovels." Now that you have found the feeling, write more articles when you are in a good state. Persist in writing often, and the quantity and quality will be improved. I hope you can publish your own collection of essays as soon as possible.
Mr. Feng's warm and encouraging words activated the cells of my whole body and filled me with power instantly, so I spoke more. Sun Yajun probably didn't talk much because he was a little shy. Both Mr. Feng and I were in good shape, and we talked a lot. The scene was very lively. Teacher Feng told his student Yongchun Yang that although Xiao Liu is much younger than you, the article is well written. You can read online and learn more from him. I couldn't sit still for a word, so I quickly changed the subject and started chatting with Yongchun Yang, asking about his work and writing. Yajun Sun also started talking with Mr. Feng at will. At that time, it was about ten o'clock, and I was afraid that it would affect Mr. Feng's rest, so I offered to leave. Mr. Feng took out two of his newly published essays "Sailing in a Boat" this year, signed his name and gave them to Yajun Sun and me. Then, Mr. Feng sent the three of us downstairs, and everyone shook hands with each other, thus breaking up. Xi 'an's winter night is very cold, but walking on the wide street is really warm in my heart …
In the past, I always thought that Mr. Feng was a man of few words, but the second meeting made me appreciate his talkativeness and his personality charm. Maybe he stayed in Ziyang for a long time and was influenced by Ziyang dialect. He speaks very fast, just like shooting a machine gun, which shows his active thinking. His voice is loud, magnetic, penetrating and infectious. His body movements are excellent, and his arms are always tirelessly waving and turning in mid-air. From his series of language and gestures, I feel that he is a rough but delicate man, a man who is unkempt but very cultured, and a man full of strength and passion in his heart. These inner things make him different. I think it is because of his inner strength that he has so much energy to do so many things; It is precisely because of these inner passions that he can love his work, life and decades of literary career and has achieved fruitful results in many fields. It seems that to really understand a person, just like drinking a cup of tea and reading a book, you need to taste it slowly.
No matter how complicated Mr. Feng is, I still only regard him as a writer. I think, to understand a writer, we must read his works well, and we can only understand him after reading his works.
I admire Mr. Feng, an Ankang writer, and I will get to know him gradually by reading his works.
