Teacher in the mountains, what makes her so persistent?

Pan Xuexiu, a trilingual teacher in Miao Village, has been rooted in the mountains for 35 years.

He is an indispensable trilingual teacher, enlightening the children in Miao village with Mandarin.

He was once so poor that he had to dig wild vegetables to support his family, but he was still reluctant to leave these children.

The number of students has decreased from more than 200 to 7. He said that he would continue to teach as long as there was one student.

Pan Xuexiu teaches children in Mandarin, Miao language and Hainan dialect.

Simple schools lack sports teaching AIDS, so they play games with children in school programs.

Pan Xuexiu is 58 years old and her hair has been stained with frost. But when he was holding hands with seven children, whispering the local Miao language, shaking his hands and playing with them in the sun, he looked like a complete child.

In Liujiaoling Primary School in Wanning Peking University, Pan Xuexiu devoted his life's efforts.

From more than 200 students at the peak to 7 students today, he is an indispensable trilingual teacher in this school. All children who have just entered school must first accept his "trilingual" enlightenment; He is an indispensable relative of the left-behind children, persuading the children who dropped out of school to resume classes, taking them home in the rain and mud, and taking them home to cook for them.

"I am willing to make a ladder to help students see farther." Pan Xuexiu said.

The king of children like his father.

On the morning of September 18, Liujiaoling Primary School, Liujiaoling Village, Peking University Town, Wanning.

Pan Xuexiu, a Chinese teacher, searched the tender faces under the podium. One two three four five six, a child is missing. Pan Qinghui, a student who called in sick yesterday, hasn't come to school yet. "Teacher, my sister went for an injection today." Pan Qinghui's sister Pan Qingling said.

At this teaching point, there are now seven students left, four of whom are left-behind children.

Pan Qingling and Pan Qinghui, twin sisters, are the two children who worry Pan Xuexiu the most. A few years ago, their father went to prison for something, and their mother ran away from home and disappeared, leaving their grandparents with them. Since the beginning of school in September this year, Pan Xuexiu has been to the twins' home four times in half a month. "I am afraid that their parents are not around and no one is taking care of them. It is very dangerous."

Last Friday afternoon, the class started in ten minutes. The two sisters haven't come yet, and they are in a hurry to learn. He started a motorcycle with a broken rearview mirror to find them. The road was slippery after the rain, and the school show found them eating snacks and playing near their home. "Everyone is still playing in class, and I am anxious for the teacher." Pan Xuexiu is a little angry.

When the two children saw Teacher Pan, they grinned and got on Pan Xuexiu's motorcycle.

Although these children are half a century apart from Mr. Pan, they seem to be extremely good friends. When class was over, Pan Xuexiu held their little hands with his big hand, and played chicken and guessing games with the eagle, which was very enjoyable.

After school, he took the children by the hand and sent them home as usual. The children's journey home became difficult only two years ago. In the past, the muddy road worried Pan Xuexiu. Every rainy day, the picture of Pan Xuexiu leading the children home has become commonplace in the eyes of the villagers. There are butterflies and wild flowers on the roadside, and the children are talking and laughing all the way around the "king of children".

Pan Qinghui's illness, which called in sick, became Pan Xuexiu's concern. After several barks, Pan Xuexiu knocked on the door of Qinghui's house. In the tile house, Pan Qinghui's grandmother, Jiang, leaned out and saw that it was Pan Xuexiu. She grabbed his hand excitedly. "Teacher pan, there you go again. Thank you. " Jiang Gang came back with a child injection, and the sad face didn't dissipate until he saw Pan Xuexiu.

"It is very hard for two old people to go out to work and take two granddaughters. We are very grateful to Teacher Pan for caring so much about the students. " Jiang said that most of the children who go to teaching points now are children who have no money to send to kindergartens in the town. These children come from poor families and their parents are often absent. Being their teacher is as worrying as being their parents.

In this remote village where 1000 Miao compatriots live together, Pan Xuexiu showed his love for the next generation.

An indispensable trilingual teacher

Why is there only seven children in this school, but it has not been merged?

Tang, the head of Liujiaoling Primary School, explained the reason: one or two years ago, people from various sects of the Ministry of Education came to investigate. At first, they thought they could merge, but they found that their children didn't even understand the most basic Mandarin, so they gave up: if they were sent to a central primary school, listening to Mandarin would be like listening to a sealed book, and they had to be enlightened in Mandarin first.

To enlighten these children in Mandarin, we must teach them how to learn it.

Pan Xuexiu encountered the same dilemma when she was young. He didn't go to primary school until he was 1 1. From grade one to grade three, he didn't even have a textbook. Teachers teach in Hainan dialect and Miao language. In the fourth grade, Pan Xuexiu went to a school on a nearby farm and found that she didn't even understand a word. He hurried back to Liujiaoling and asked his former teachers what they were talking about.

I didn't know until I asked. It's Mandarin. A teacher named Zhang Huiqiong saw that Pan Xuexiu was eager to learn, so he lent him his dictionary and taught him pronunciation while letting him learn by himself. Pan Xuexiu was attracted by the beautiful language of Chinese.

From 65438 to 0978, Pan Xuexiu became one of the first three children admitted to Wanning Middle School in Liujiaoling Village. At that time, his dream was to walk out of the mountains through hard work. Therefore, when he graduated from high school, he was faced with the choice of life path.

One side is the unknown world outside the mountain, and the other side is the hometown of poverty.

Pan Xuexiu finally chose to stay in the mountains: "I can't walk out of the mountains. I hope my students can walk out of the mountains."

At that time, a central primary school moved to Liujiaoling, and children from nearby villages came here to study. However, they face a problem: Miao children don't even have a Chinese name when they go to school, let alone understand Chinese teachers' classes.

Pan Xuexiu gave many children names without names, only to find that no matter how he taught them in Mandarin, they didn't respond. After several classes, Pan Xuexiu tried to teach pronunciation in Mandarin and explain the meaning of words in Miao and Hainan dialects. Finally, he saw that the children's faces were no longer vacant. Other teachers were also surprised to find this phenomenon.

Since then, Pan Xuexiu has started his trilingual teaching. Teaching is slow, but effective.

Teacher Tang, who has worked with Pan Xuexiu for many years, said that ordinary teachers can't teach these children who know nothing about Mandarin and Chinese characters. Teacher Pan Xuexiu is an indispensable first teacher for these children to enter the campus. "Other teachers often let Pan Xuexiu translate in class. When there are difficulties, Teacher Pan will stand by and translate in Miao language. "

Every time another teacher offers an invitation for translation, Pan Xuexiu will not refuse.

Willing to be a student's knowledge ladder

It's not that Pan Xuexiu didn't want to leave. 1996, his ex-wife died of illness, and his family was poor except for his young children. Pan Xuexiu had to look for wild vegetables everywhere to support his family. He had the idea of going out and breaking into houses.

But Pan Xuexiu didn't leave. He can't let go of his eyes eager for knowledge. Since the school began to be demolished in 2009, there are fewer and fewer students, from more than 200 at the peak to 20 12, and only a few students remain in a class. Pan Xuexiu said that as long as a child needs him, he will stay. "No one can be left behind."

For decades, Pan Xuexiu can't remember how many dropouts she advised.

Tang said that in the past, when tuition fees were needed, children with poor grades sometimes dropped out of school for various reasons. At this time, no matter which class the child is in, the teacher should bring a disc learning show that is proficient in Miao language when visiting the home.

1998, a girl named Qing Qing (a pseudonym) suddenly disappeared when she was in the third grade. Pan Xuexiu hurried to Qingqing's house. Only after asking did I know that Qingqing had a buffalo at home. Her mother was too busy to be alone, so she wanted Qingqing to drop out of school and be responsible for herding cattle every day. After some persuasion, Qingqing was able to return to school.

Although Qingqing didn't go to college in the end, she learned fluent Mandarin, which will be useful for life.

In the eyes of her 20-year-old son, Pan Xiaoqing, Pan Xuexiu is also an excellent teacher. What impressed Pan Xiaoqing was that he didn't finish his homework when he was studying in his father's class. Like other children, he will be left to finish his homework before going home. "At school, he is my teacher. He won't treat me differently because I am his child."

Last year 10, Li Xiu, a former student of the Disc Learning Show and now a teacher in Peking University, returned to his alma mater and saw the Disc Learning Show correcting homework in the office through the broken window glass. His eyes are moist. He wrote this poem for the former teacher: The road is long and Xiu Yuan is Xi, and my heart is strong and I want to teach. The sideburns are white and jubilant, and the sunset glow is full of red feet.

Li Xiu and I remember that when he was a primary school student twenty or thirty years ago, Pan Xuexiu was the most admired person. "At that time, my family was very difficult, and his family was even more difficult, but he loved students very much and often told me to study hard to change my destiny." Li Xiuhe said that he never knew Mandarin, and now he is a Chinese teacher. The encouragement of learning programs has played a great role.

On the day when the poem was presented to the teacher, Pan Xuexiu found Li Xiu and earnestly expressed his wish: "Now, the only teachers in the town who understand Miao language are you and me. I will retire in two years, so you must come back to take my place. "

Li Xiu and the teacher who looked at the gray hair said, "I will come back if necessary."

Pan Xuexiu's face showed a gratified smile. "I hope my classmates can take me as a ladder of knowledge, climb higher and see farther, so that children in mountainous areas can go out and fly freely in the vast world." Pan Xuexiu said that when he was about to retire, he was so happy to hear that student Li Xiu was willing to come back to his class.
