Shanxi Institute of Energy is an applied undergraduate college founded by Shanxi Provincial People's Government with the approval of the Ministry of Education. College is a key construction project in Shanxi Comprehensive Reform Experimental Zone, a pilot college for applied undergraduate courses in Shanxi Province, and a pilot college for "integration of production and education" in local universities nationwide. Power engineering and engineering thermophysics are the dominant disciplines of "133 1 engineering" in Shanxi Province, and the high-performance conveyor belt laboratory is the key laboratory in Shanxi Province.

Adhering to the motto of "living by virtue, being good at learning and doing good", the College has gradually formed six professional groups, namely, energy power, new energy and future energy, intelligent manufacturing of energy equipment, smart energy, energy resources and environment, and energy economic management, based on the needs of Socialism with Chinese characteristics construction in the new era. Around six major professional groups, three teaching departments, such as Energy and Power Engineering Department, New Energy Engineering Department, Electromechanical Engineering Department, Power Engineering and Automation Department, Mining Engineering Department, Safety Engineering Department, Geological Surveying and Mapping Engineering Department, Resources and Environmental Engineering Department, Computer and Information Management Department, Economic Management Department, Ideological and Political Theory Teaching and Research Department, Basic Teaching Department and Continuing Education Department, were established, and 24 undergraduate majors were set up. Twenty-four majors in six major professional groups echo and cooperate with each other, and strive to connect the talent chain needed by energy and related enterprises from production to management, forming a professional cluster with the characteristics of energy college.
