Changqing Oilfield is a typical "three lows" (low permeability, low pressure and low abundance) oil and gas field in the world. Its remarkable feature is "there is oil in the well, but there is no flow in the well", so economic and effective development is a worldwide problem.

Starting from low permeability oilfield, we broke through ultra-low permeability, fought ultra-low permeability again, liberated tight gas and realized large-scale effective development of shale oil. Changqing Oilfield has been engaged in basic research and scientific and technological research for nearly 50 years. Xifeng oilfield, with a reserve of more than 400 million tons, experienced three failures in exploration; Attacking Jiyuan Oilfield with a reserve of 500 million tons failed six times. Technicians stick to the plateau desert and focus on the basic research of geological evolution law and oil and gas generation for decades, forming five original theoretical understandings of rapid acquisition of oil and gas resources, and finally controlling the initiative of oil and gas resources in the basin. Accumulated proven oil reserves are 5.9 billion tons and proven natural gas reserves are 4 trillion cubic meters.

In recent two years, oil exploration has found a large shale oil field with a reserve of 654.38 billion tons in Qingyang, Gansu. Two hundred billion cubic meters gas-bearing areas, Longdong and Ningxia, were newly discovered in natural gas exploration, and a carbonate atmospheric area with proven reserves of 2 124 billion cubic meters was obtained on the west side of Jingbian gas field. Risk exploration captured the first high-yield marine shale gas well in northern China. With the accumulation of resource advantages, Changqing still has a huge production capacity of 60 million tons and great potential for sustainable development.

The development of Changqing Oilfield is hard-won. From discovery to scale development, Ansai Oilfield spent eight years in the early stage to overcome key technical problems, which initiated the economic and effective development of ultra-low permeability oilfield in China. At the beginning of the new century, after six years of practical exploration in the Mu Us Desert, technicians realized the benefit development of Sulige gas field with the largest proven reserves in China.

Under the pressure of two rounds of international ultra-low oil prices, Changqing Oilfield constantly challenged the limits of unconventional oil and gas development, broke the technological monopoly of foreign companies with independent innovation, mastered key core technologies such as optimized rapid drilling of horizontal wells and volume fracturing, and overcame the world problems of tight gas and shale oil development, which made the "three low" oil and gas reservoirs burst into huge energy. One million tons of shale oil national demonstration zone and 3 billion cubic meters of tight gas efficient development demonstration zone have been built successively. Accelerate the promotion of 60 million tons, leading the development of oil and gas in China into an "unconventional" era.

Faced with the reality of "multi-wells and low production" in "three low" oil and gas fields, Changqing Oilfield has explored and formed five low-cost development models of low-permeability oil and gas fields to ensure that the development of enterprises always changes to a more efficient, lower-cost and more sustainable direction. With the help of a new generation of information technology, more than 900 integrated, innovative and practical technologies are embedded in the key links of oil and gas field construction, production and management, which will drive the digital transformation and intelligent upgrading of the entire oil and gas development industry chain, drive the transformation of production methods and management methods to new industrialization, ease the pressure on oil and gas development costs, and effectively hedge the business risks brought about by previous international oil price collapses.

Changqing Oilfield has contributed more than 760 million tons of oil and gas production to the country. The long-term stable production of 60 million tons of super-large oil and gas fields has given China more say in international energy cooperation. Based on the accumulation of resource advantages, the breakthrough of key core technologies and the innovation of low-cost model, Changqing Oilfield plans to increase the annual oil and gas output to 68 million tons during the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period.

Changqing oilfield production area spans five provinces (regions) of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Mongolia and Shanxi, which is not only an important oil and gas replacement area in China, but also a necessary place for oil and gas in Central Asia to enter the southeast coast. As the largest natural gas production base in China, Changqing Oilfield is responsible for supplying gas to more than 50 large and medium-sized cities. The annual natural gas output exceeded 44.5 billion cubic meters, forming a safe and stable gas source for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Mongolia regions. Since 1997, the cumulative production of natural gas is 468.3 billion cubic meters, which is equivalent to replacing 562 million tons of standard coal, reducing carbon emissions by15.29 million tons, which has played a good ecological benefit.
