Is there a shortage of talents in Hong Kong?

It is reported that the Hong Kong SAR Government announced the launch of a three-year "Science and Technology Talents Entry Scheme" on May 8, aiming at importing overseas and mainland science and technology talents for science and technology companies (institutions) in the Hong Kong SAR through fast entry arrangements. The program will start accepting applications in June. The quota for the first year is 1 000, and each company (institution) can get the quota of 1 000 at most every year.

The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr. Yang, said that the planned quota would first apply to tenants and incubation companies engaged in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, network security, robotics, data analysis, financial technology and materials science in the Hong Kong Science Park Company and Cyberport. Non-local scientific and technological talents who come to Hong Kong through the Science and Technology Talents Entry Scheme must meet the conditions of full-time employment in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and employment in specific science, technology, engineering or mathematics industries; Among them, holders of master's or doctoral degrees do not need work experience.

It is understood that compared with the existing talent introduction schemes in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, such as the general employment policy and the mainland talent entry scheme, the processing time for companies (institutions) to apply for talents introduced through the technology talent entry scheme can be shortened to two weeks, and the processing time can be shortened by half compared with other schemes.

Yang said that the key to the development of science and technology is talent. There is a great demand for scientific and technological talents in Hong Kong. The launch of the "Entry Scheme for Scientific and Technological Talents" can greatly simplify the procedures and time for scientific and technological talents to apply for entry, effectively help scientific and technological companies (institutions) recruit scientific and technological talents from overseas and the Mainland, and is of great significance to promoting the development of science and technology in Hong Kong.
