How to repair oil painting damage

1. For the uneven picture caused by extrusion collision, spray some water on the canvas without cracks on the back, and put it in a ventilated place to dry as soon as possible after the picture is flat. When using a hair dryer to accelerate drying, the temperature should not be too high. Generally, sun drying is not used.

2. The cracked image is difficult to repair, and there are professional maintenance personnel and advanced technology abroad. The simple method is: after clearing the cracks with turpentine, put the picture flat, pad the cracked back with a wooden board with a certain hardness, then gently tap the cracks in front with a small hammer to flatten the protruding corners, then apply high-quality transparent latex on the cracks, color the obvious cracks, and polish them after drying. This method is limited to plane pictures without texture, and textured pictures can only be glued, polished or colored after cleaning. Where the color block falls off, large white powder (or lithopone) should be made into paste with latex as filler. Fill it, and then fill it with color.

3. For the rupture caused by collision, the repair method is: paint latex on the back of the rupture, cut a slightly larger linen cloth and stick it on it, level the rupture with a knife, and lay it flat on a flat plate with the picture facing down. Iron the lined linen with an electric iron, and be careful not to let the latex stick to the table through the crack. Dry it after leveling, and then fill the damaged part with pigment. If the damaged part is obvious, it needs to be filled with filler before coloring.
