There is a saying in The Analects: "Forty without confusion", which means that people of this age are mature enough to have their own judgments and will not easily repeat the same mistakes. Middle age is not terrible. The terrible thing is that the mind is completely "middle-aged" and there is no desire to change the status quo and reverse life.
