Anhui citizens spontaneously mourned the sacrifice of firefighters. Why is this fireman worth doing?
80% of fire casualties are caused by smoke, and the indicators of smoke generation level and smoke toxicity level will be included in the new standard for the first time.
Relevant persons from Sichuan Fire Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security recently confirmed to China Business News that the revision of "Classification of Burning Performance of Building Materials and Products (GB8624)" (hereinafter referred to as "new GB8624 standard") has been completed and submitted to the National Standards Committee for approval, which will be released as early as the first quarter of this year.
According to Zhao Chenggang, the drafter of the new GB8624 standard and director of the building materials department of Sichuan Fire Protection Research Institute, the most noticeable change in this revision is to increase the smoke production grade and smoke toxicity grade index of building materials, which are marked separately from the combustion performance grade index of building materials.
The number one killer of fire.
"Toxic gases and smoke have always been called' the number one killer of fire' by the fire research community. According to rough statistics, in the past fires in China, nearly 80% of casualties were caused by toxic gases such as carbon monoxide and smoke emitted by building materials. " Wu Ping, an engineer from the Fire Information Department of Sichuan Fire Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, introduced to the reporter.
On February 25th, last year, 26 people were killed and 1 1 injured in a fire at Zhongshan Western Restaurant in Guangdong. The reasons for the high number of casualties are not only the illegal addition of mezzanine, but also the extensive use of sponges in western restaurant decoration materials, which leads to a large amount of toxic smoke such as carbon monoxide after burning.
Wu Ping said that in addition to the Zhongshan fire last year, a large number of casualties in major fires in China were also caused by toxic smoke from burning building materials.
"fundamental change"
Sichuan Fire Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, located in Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province, is a research department directly under the Ministry of Public Security specializing in building fire prevention science and technology. Formerly known as the Fire Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, the new GB8624 standard was drafted by the Institute.
"Compared with the previous standards, this revision of the GB8624 standard can be described as a fundamental change in the fire performance index system of this building material." Zhao Chenggang said.
It is understood that China's GB8624 standard was first published in 1988 and later revised in 1997. Zhao Chenggang said that the current version of 1997 was formulated with reference to the German standard DIN 4102-1:1981,but in 2002, the EU unified standard EN13501.
In the "Draft for Approval" of GB8624 standard obtained by China Business News, the new standard stated: "Because it conforms to the EU standard, the fire resistance of building materials has changed from a single fire resistance index to a series of indexes including combustion heat release rate, combustion heat release, combustion smoke density and toxicity of combustion products."
Zhao Chenggang said that according to the new GB8624 standard, the labels of future building materials will include the combination of different grades of fire resistance, smoke output, smoke toxicity and combustion droplets. This means that even if the fire resistance of building materials is very good in the future, they may be marked with a lower grade in terms of smoke production and smoke toxicity.
A person in the building materials industry told reporters that according to the previous standards, the current polyurethane foam (commonly known as sponge) is a petroleum product and flammable. In order to meet the national fire protection requirements, manufacturers add flame retardants to their products, so that the combustion performance of the products can reach B 1 grade (flame retardant grade). However, due to the loose smoke density index of B 1, once a fire breaks out, a large amount of toxic smoke will be emitted, and victims will often suffocate by inhaling toxic smoke.
