The god system began in the Western Wei Dynasty during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. In the second year of the emperor's reign (AD 553), it was first established as a county and then as a county. It is named after worshiping the Cancong family who "taught the people in Qingyi how to farm and mulberry, and the people were all gods". It has a history of 1451 years so far (2004).

In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Qingshen was affiliated to the Meishan Prefecture of the Western Sichuan Administrative Region. In 1953, it was placed under the jurisdiction of the Leshan Prefecture. In 1968, the Leshan Prefecture was renamed Leshan Prefecture, and in 1985 it was renamed Leshan City.

In August 1997, the six counties of Meishan, Pengshan, Renshou, Danling, Hongya and Qingshen under the former Leshan City established the Meishan District (Dongpo District, where the prefectural committee administrative office is located), and Qingshen The county was placed under the jurisdiction of Meishan Prefecture. Qingshen belongs to the humid subtropical climate category. It has the characteristics of mild climate, abundant rainfall, distinct four seasons, late winter and early spring, and long frost-free period. The annual average temperature is 17.1 degrees Celsius, the sunshine is 1181.7 hours, the annual precipitation is 1098.8 mm, and the frost-free period is 313 days. The territory is crisscrossed by rivers and streams, and is rich in water resources.

Qingshen County has a population of 198,500 (2003), with a population density of 513.19 people per square kilometer. Among them, there are 164,200 residents with rural registered permanent residence, accounting for 82.7% of the county's population. Among them, there are 100,800 male residents and 97,800 female residents, with a male to female ratio of 103:100.

The age number and proportion of the county's population are: 37,000 people under 18 years old, accounting for 18.6% of the total population; 54,400 people aged 18 to 35 years old, accounting for 27.4% of the total population; There are 76,200 people aged 35 to 60 years old, accounting for 38.4% of the total population; 31,000 people aged over 60 years old, accounting for 15.6% of the total population.

Chengxiang Town, where the county government is located, has an area of ??8.05 square kilometers, a population of 22,685 people, and a population density of 2,818 people per square kilometer. It is the most densely populated place in the county. It is located in the center of the impact of the Minjiang River and Simeng River. .
