FreeUndelete restores deleted files, including those deleted from the Windows Recycle Bin. This utility can help if files on NTFS (1.0 and 2.0) (the default settings for Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and NT), FAT32, FAT 16 or FAT 12 file systems are accidentally deleted.

Supported file systems:

NTFS 1.0, NTFS 2.0, FAT 12, FAT 16 and FAT32.

The recovered files are saved in a new location selected by the user to prevent overwriting the deleted files on the original media.

A deleted file is essentially an area on the disk that is designated as free and ready to accept data (such as the contents of some other files). Fortunately, unless the area has been overwritten, it still holds the contents of the deleted file. Due to this fact, it is possible to cancel deleting files.

This fact also determines the following process of using FreeUndelete:

Stop any activity on the disk, you have to restore the deleted files! Remember that writing to this disk may damage the contents of deleted files. Examples of catastrophic activities include copying files to a disk, installing a program on the disk, or running a program that uses the disk as an exchange medium.

Download and install FreeUndelete. Whenever possible, save the executable file of the installer and install the program on a disk that does not contain files that need to be undeleted.

Run and use FreeUndelete.

Tip:

The only drive owned by users is C: This is very common, and this is also the drive from which files need to be recovered. In this case, a good solution is to use USB flash drive as the destination for free download and installation.
