Why was Yan Shu chosen?

Faced with the questions of the officials, Song Zhenzong said:

"Recently, officials of all sizes in the capital often travel and have banquets. Only Yan Shu remained unmoved and studied behind closed doors.

Such a prudent and prudent person is the perfect choice for the East Palace official.”

If we were ordinary people, we would be ecstatic and even show off when we hear the emperor’s personal praise.

But guess what Yan Shu answered?

Yan Shu said:

“I actually like to travel, but my family is too poor.

Why is this?

If you are stubborn, you will kill people, but you will harm the country. >

“Three or four times out of ten, things in the world are caused by cunning people.

Ten or four times out of ten, things are caused by unsophisticated gentlemen. There are six or seven.”

Although what Mr. Liu E described is only a fictional plot in a novel, we should not forget that novels often come from reality.

In fact, such dim and upright officials are not rare animals in history.

For example, in the Ming Dynasty, there was a cabinet minister named Wen Tiren (1573-1639).

According to historical records, this person "keeps himself to himself and does not breed preserved goods", which can be said to be as honest as water.

However, during his eight years in office, he did not propose any strategy for running the country, nor did he achieve any achievements in enriching the people and strengthening the army.

He is completely mediocre, and the most hateful thing is:

He wears a clean and honest appearance, but he hides a paranoid heart.

After he won the trust of Emperor Chongzhen with his integrity, he cultivated party members in the court and eliminated dissidents, doing everything he could.

The reason why Huang Taiji was able to get rid of Yuan Chonghuan with a low-level divorce tactic was because Wen Tiren assisted him in front of Chongzhen.

Therefore, the later "History of the Ming Dynasty" included Wen Tiren in the "Biography of Traitors" and commented:

Prince Sakyamuni didn’t even recognize a pig when he walked on the road.

Socrates was even more frank. He simply declared:

"Each of us must admit that we have limitation. ”

If we follow the steps of "Eternal Virtue" and go up one level, we will step into the realm of "Wuji".
