The Forbidden City is as big as Gaocheng.

The Forbidden City covers an area of 72 hectares. (One hectare is equal to 15 mu. 1 mu equals 666 and two-thirds square meters), Gaocheng has only 3.6 million square meters, which must be the size of the Forbidden City.

The Forbidden City was built in Yongle of the Ming Dynasty from 4 to 18 (1406- 1420). After many renovations and reconstructions, it still maintains its original scale. Covering an area of 72 hectares, it consists of dozens of courtyards, with more than 9,000 houses, surrounded by a palace wall with a height of 10 meter and a moat with a width of more than 50 meters. There are turrets at the four corners of the palace wall, and there is a meridian gate in the middle of the south. The main buildings in the Forbidden City are the outer court and the inner court. The three main halls of Taihe, Zhonghe and Baohe in the foreign dynasty were built on a three-story white marble platform, where the emperor exercised his power and held a grand ceremony. The Forbidden City, with Gan Qing Palace, Jiaotai Palace and Kunning Palace as the main body, is the place where the emperor handles government affairs and life, and the six palaces on both sides of it are the residences of concubines.
