Do you need ID to activate your social security card

Social security card activation requires an ID card in person. Participants need to take their social security card and original identification to the corresponding bank branch to activate the social security card. The process of activating the social security card is as follows:

1. Ensure that the basic personal information is correct. Employers (schools) can verify the basic personal information through the XX City Human Resources and Social Security online reporting system or at the business window of the social insurance agency; non-employees bring their original valid ID cards and copies to the streets in their own jurisdictions to verify their basic personal information;

2. The information needed to activate the social security card is as follows:

(1) ID card, ID card photocopies ( front and back copy);

(2) Participants who have not applied for the second-generation ID card or have lost the second-generation ID card need to provide a copy of their hukou page;

(3) Special groups of people need to provide copies of special documents (such as: disability certificate, work injury certificate, low income guarantee, etc.).

3. Receive a social security card. Employees (students) can collect the card through their units; non-employees can collect the card from the streets under their jurisdiction;

4. Opening the social security card. After receiving the social security card, the insured person must go to the corresponding bank window to open the social security card with the social security card and the original valid identity document; minors need to be handled by the guardian with the social security card, the original valid identity document of the guardian, and the original hukou book.

Legal basis: Article 11 of the Measures for the Administration of Social Security Cards of the People's Republic of China

The third-party organization selected by the card-issuing region to undertake the production of social security cards shall have a safe production environment that meets the requirements of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and shall have strict security management measures in the process of data storage, transmission, use, and transportation of cards.

Article 12

In the case of initial card production and replacement of card suppliers and products, test cards shall be produced through the official card production environment, and shall be formally produced and issued only after passing the standard compliance audit, security audit and inter-region universality test organized by the Leading Group Office of Informatization of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

Article 13

The card-issuing region shall, in accordance with the principle of convenience for cardholders, formulate a scientific and reasonable issuance process, and conveniently issue social security cards to cardholders.
