Article 1

Enterprises of universal ownership, public institutions and party and government organs, and the work of mass organizations should be retired if they meet one of the following conditions. (a) men who have reached the age of sixty and women who have reached the age of fifty, with ten years of continuous service; (b) men who have reached the age of fifty-five and women who have reached the age of forty-five, with ten years of continuous service, engaged in underground, high-altitude, high-temperature, exceptionally heavy physical labor, or other work hazardous to physical health. The provisions of this subparagraph shall also apply to grass-roots cadres whose working conditions are the same as those of workers; (3) men who have reached the age of fifty and women who have reached the age of forty-five, with ten years of continuous service, and who are certified by a hospital and confirmed by the Labor Appraisal Committee to be totally incapacitated for work; (4) those who have become disabled at work, and who are certified by a hospital and confirmed by the Labor Appraisal Committee to be totally incapacitated for work.
