How to activate the social security card

Properly sealed is activated through the human resources department of the original organization, and long-term sealed goes to the Social Security Administration for activation.

If a social security card is only temporarily sealed, for example because of a change of workplace, it can be activated through the human resources department of the original or new organization. Consult your organization's human resources department for details on how to do this.

If your social security card is sealed for a long period of time, for example, because you are leaving the country, you will need to go to a social security office or social security agency to activate it. Please bring a valid ID and your social security card with you.
