Can you pay five insurances yourself?
According to the relevant laws and regulations, the five insurances are paid by the employer on behalf of employees, and employees cannot pay the five insurances alone. This is because the five insurances are part of the labor relations and social security provided by employers for employees, rather than the insurance voluntarily paid by individuals.
In practice, some individual industrial and commercial households or freelancers may not be able to participate in the five insurances because they have no employers. At this time, they can choose to pay personal tax deferred commercial health insurance and other commercial insurance to make up for the lack of social insurance. However, the coverage and reimbursement standards of these commercial insurances may be different and need to be selected according to individual circumstances.
The payment process of five insurances is as follows:
1. Employers need to handle social insurance for employees when they join the company, including endowment insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, work injury insurance and maternity insurance. At the same time, the employer also needs to pay the corresponding social insurance fees for employees;
2. The employer needs to pay social insurance premiums to the social security department before the monthly salary payment date, and issue payroll and social security payment details to employees to clarify the social security payment situation;
3. The employer needs to submit social security payment returns to the social security department on a regular basis, such as social insurance premium payment returns and social insurance premium collection notices;
4. Employees can choose whether to adjust the individual social security payment base according to their own situation after the annual social security payment base is determined;
5. When employees need to use social security-related services, they can apply to the social security department, such as medical reimbursement and pension collection.
To sum up, the five insurances are social insurance jointly paid by employers and employees, and cannot be paid by employees alone. If there is no employer, you can choose to buy commercial insurance to make up for the lack of social insurance.

Article 57 of People's Republic of China (PRC) Social Insurance Law
The employing unit shall, within 30 days from the date of its establishment, apply to the local social insurance agency for social insurance registration with its business license, registration certificate or unit seal. The social insurance agency shall, within fifteen days from the date of receiving the application, examine and issue the social insurance registration certificate.
Where the social insurance registration items of the employing unit are changed or the employing unit is terminated according to law, it shall, within 30 days from the date of change or termination, go to the social insurance agency to handle the change or cancellation of social insurance registration.
The administrative department for industry and commerce, the civil affairs department and the organization management organ shall promptly notify the social insurance agency of the establishment and termination of the employing unit, and the public security organ shall promptly notify the social insurance agency of the birth, death and household registration, transfer and cancellation of an individual.
Article 58
The employing unit shall, within 30 days from the date of employment, apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration for its employees. If the social insurance has not been registered, the social insurance agency shall verify the social insurance premium it should pay.
Employees-free individual industrial and commercial households who voluntarily participate in social insurance, part-time employees who do not participate in social insurance in the employing unit and other flexible employees shall apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration.
The state establishes a national unified personal social security number. Personal social security number is a citizen's identity number.
