The initial password of the new social security card in Shanghai is 123456. Incorrect social security passwords entered for six consecutive times during the application process will be locked. If the social security password is lost, locked or needs to be modified, the cardholder can reset, unlock and modify it at community acceptance outlets or bank acceptance outlets with his/her valid resident ID card (or his/her household registration book if he/she has not applied for a resident ID card under 0/6 years old) and social security card.
