Do I need to activate my social security card?

I don't have to activate my social security card. Details are as follows:

1. To activate the social security card, you need to bring your valid ID card and social security card to any outlet in the same city where you open an account (minors need to be handled by the guardian with the social security card, the original valid ID card of the guardian and the household registration book).

2. If I can't activate the card at the outlet for special reasons, the agent can activate the social security account at any outlet in the city where the account is opened with the valid identity documents of both parties and the social security card.

3. The financial account must be opened in person, and the financial function of a special person or thing can be opened. The agent can apply for on-site service at any branch in the same city where the social security card is opened.

Article 58 of People's Republic of China (PRC) Social Insurance Law

The employing unit shall, within 30 days from the date of employment, apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration for its employees. If the social insurance has not been registered, the social insurance agency shall verify the social insurance premium it should pay.

Employees-free individual industrial and commercial households who voluntarily participate in social insurance, part-time employees who do not participate in social insurance in the employing unit and other flexible employees shall apply to the social insurance agency for social insurance registration.

The state establishes a national unified personal social security number. Personal social security number is a citizen's identity number.
