Huawei Jinqiao R&D Center, where Huawei’s Shanghai Research Institute is located, began planning and construction at the beginning of this century and was designed by the famous SOM design company that designed Shanghai Jinmao Tower. It is about 770 meters long from east to west and is very impressive. .

In 2010, the year of the Shanghai World Expo, Huawei Shanghai Research Institute officially settled in the Jinqiao R&D Center. However, Huawei's business developed too fast. Within a few years, the Jinqiao R&D Center was overcrowded. Office spaces and parking spaces were full. Huawei's Shanghai Research Institute had to rent office space in other surrounding parks.

Starting in 2016, Huawei began to build a new R&D base in Shanghai with a larger scale, higher standards, and higher positioning. Boss Ren personally led the team and conducted repeated inspections, and finally settled on the Xicen area by Dianshan Lake. In 2017, Huawei formally signed an agreement with the Shanghai Municipal Government and began preparatory work.

In fact, yesterday’s press release on the signing of a framework agreement to deepen strategic cooperation between the Shanghai Municipal Government and Huawei and the opening ceremony of Huawei’s Qingpu R&D Center project already has the answer.

The business cooperation areas mentioned in the framework agreement include integrated circuits, software and information services, Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles, Industrial Internet, smart city demonstration applications, etc. Do you see it? Huawei has a very important business, which is also the wireless communication business that accounts for the majority of Huawei Shanghai Research Institute. The wireless communication business is Huawei's top priority, Huawei's 2G/3G/4G/5G, and the future 6G. The core R&D team is all in Shanghai. In other words, Huawei's Jinqiao R&D Center will mainly focus on wireless communications research and development in the future, and the team will be expanded for subsequent 5G/6G research and development. 6G pre-research began a few years ago and has achieved phased results.
