What is the process of PCB drilling?

PCB drilling is the process of drilling holes in PCB circuit board to install components or establish electrical connections. Usually in the early stage of PCB manufacturing.

The following is the general process of PCB drilling:

1. design: according to the requirements of circuit design and layout, determine the location and size of drilling holes in the circuit board design software.

2. Preparation: transmit the designed PCB file to the PCB manufacturer, and prepare the required materials, such as copper-clad glass fiber composite board and drill bit for drilling.

3. Alignment: Place the PCB on the drilling machine, and use the alignment fixture or positioning hole to ensure the accurate position.

4. Drilling: Use an automatic drilling machine to position the drill bit to a predetermined position according to the design specifications and requirements, and start drilling by rotating and pressing. These drills can be coated with cemented carbide or diamond to provide higher wear resistance and accuracy.

5. Cleaning: After drilling, clean the PCB to remove chips and residues to ensure that the hole is clean and dust-free.

6. Inspection: Check the PCB after drilling to ensure that the size and position of the hole meet the requirements. Optical instruments or automatic testing equipment can be used for inspection.

7. Surface treatment: According to requirements, PCB can be treated with surface treatment, such as copper plating or other coatings, to protect the drilled surface and provide the required conductivity.

Through this process, holes in PCB can be used to install components, establish electrical connections and realize interconnection between multilayer boards.
