At the end of July, 2008, after seven months' closed renovation, a new long-distance bus station in the shape of "sail" which embodies Qingdao's humanistic customs appeared in front of people. The reconstructed Qingdao Bus Station embodies the image of Qingdao as the "Sailing Capital" with the symbols of waves and sailboats representing Qingdao's maritime city. The station building uses neon lights and spotlights to create the shape of the ocean and sailboats at night, making the whole station like a sailboat dancing on the sea. After the transformation, the design of Qingdao bus station will increase to 3.6 million passengers, and at the same time, it has won the favor and praise from all walks of life with humanized service, intelligent management, strict safety measures and perfect functions.

Humanized service

After the reconstruction of Qingdao bus station, the infrastructure construction fully embodies the characteristics of humanized service. The ticket office is increased to two floors, of which the ticket office on the second floor is directly connected with the extension line of Wenzhou Road overpass. No matter which direction passengers enter Qingdao bus station, they can directly enter the station ticket office to buy tickets. The new Qingdao bus station is equipped with central air conditioning to provide a more comfortable waiting environment for passengers who are hot in summer and cold in winter. In order to ensure disabled passengers to enter the station, the station has set up barrier-free access for the disabled, special ticketing windows for the disabled and special toilets for the disabled during the transformation. At the same time, the underground parking lot of the station is still under construction. Upon completion, 66 social vehicle parking spaces will be provided, which can not only meet the parking demand of station passengers, but also alleviate the parking pressure around the station.

Intelligent management

Intelligent management and workflow are the biggest highlights of the station. In the ticket checking area, the ticket checking procedure is set according to the ticket checking mode of Beijing subway, and a new type of three-roller brake is used. Passengers only need to put their tickets into the scanning port of the gate to scan, and then they can get a stop sign prompt and get on the bus. The station also realized the "one card" function of IC information card. All operating vehicles entering and leaving the long-distance station use IC information cards to report the station. The information card also records the safety information of operating vehicles, and operating vehicles with potential safety hazards will be prohibited from entering the station. The bus driver wants to know how many tickets the bus sold and where the passengers went, as long as they swipe their cards. At the same time, after the vehicle swipes the card at the station, the reception room will immediately display the arrival information of the vehicle, which provides convenience for picking up the station.

The new Qingdao bus station carries out safety inspection in strict accordance with the airport security inspection standards. At present, three new baggage and parcel security devices and twenty hand-held human security devices have been equipped, and the station has formulated strict security procedures and emergency plans accordingly to strictly control safety. After the transformation of the station is completed, the connection between buses and taxis and the station will be smoother. Qingdao Bus Station has also newly set up a 200-square-meter LTL reception hall and a 1000-square-meter LTL express delivery warehouse. Xinqingdao Station will become the distribution center of LTL express that Qingdao Transportation Group arrived in all cities in the province on the same day. The station has set up a tourism service information desk in the waiting room of Qingdao Branch of Qingdao International Tourism Distribution Center to provide information consulting services for individual travelers coming to Qingdao. At present, the tourism distribution center of the station has the function of guiding the whole city's tourism, and the station has obtained the qualification of tourism management.
