What does IELTS mean?
IELTS refers to the IELTS test, which is called the international English test system and is one of the famous international English standardized proficiency tests. Co-managed by the Foreign Language Examination Department of Cambridge University Examinations Committee, the British Council and IDP Education Group, it is an English proficiency test for those who intend to study, work or settle in English-speaking countries.
I. Basic explanation
1, the IELTS test was established in 1989, and is jointly managed by the British Council for Cultural Education, the Cambridge University Examinations Board and the Australian Education International Development Agency. Adhering to the concept of "communication-oriented", IELTS is the first international test in the world to comprehensively assess English ability from four aspects: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
2. IELTS test mode is divided into paper-and-pencil mode and computer test mode. Candidates who choose the paper-and-pencil mode will take the listening, reading and writing tests through the paper-and-pencil mode and take the oral test through the "talk with everyone" form. The paper-and-pencil model is suitable for IELTS academic and training courses, and for IELTS academic and training courses for British visas and immigrants.
3. Candidates who choose the computer test mode will take the three-part test of listening, reading and writing through the computer test mode, and take the oral test in the form of "everyone talks". The computer test mode is suitable for IELTS academic and training courses, and IELTS academic classes for British visas and immigrants.
Second, the IELTS scoring standard
1, IELTS scoring criteria include: language fluency and coherence, lexical transformation, sentence richness and grammatical accuracy, pronunciation. IELTS examiners grade according to these four standards, which are equally important.
2. The recruitment and training of IELTS writing and speaking examiners should be conducted according to the established standards, so as to ensure that raters understand the IELTS scoring policy and effectively grade listening and reading papers according to the scoring standards. Each test center will carry out system monitoring, and a certain proportion of answer sheets will be double-marked. In addition to continuously monitoring the performance of examiners, examiners will be evaluated every other year to ensure that they are graded according to the standards.
3. All test scores are recorded on the report card, including a total score and four individual scores of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Candidates' test scores are assessed by the scoring system of 1-9, with four independent scores. The total score is the average of the scores of the four parts, rounded off. The total score is allowed to be half, and the individual score is allowed to be four.
