Slender West Lake is located in the northwest of Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is called "Slender West Lake" because of its elongated surface. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong visited Yangzhou several times in the south. The local gentry rushed to build gardens, which led to the saying that "the prosperity of gardens is the best in the world."

In 1988, it was listed as a "national key scenic spot with important historical and cultural heritage and Yangzhou garden characteristics" by the State Council. In 2010, it was awarded the highest honor in China's tourism industry - a national 5A tourist attraction. It is also the first national 5A tourist attraction in Yangzhou.

In April 2012, Slender West Lake Scenic Area won the honorary title of Advanced Collective in the National Tourism System. In March 2013, Yangzhou Slender West Lake won the "Tourists' Favorite Tourist Attraction (Spot) Award". In December 2013, it was awarded the "Seventh Batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units" by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
