Bridgewater is the world’s largest hedge fund and entered China in March 2016.

The company does not manage assets for wealthy people. Its clients are mainly institutional investors, including pension funds, endowment funds, foreign governments and central banks.

When Ray Dalio founded Bridgewater in 1975, the company was only engaged in two businesses, one was to provide consulting services to institutional investors, and the other was to manage domestic and foreign currency and interest rate risks. The company then changed its strategy and began selling economic consulting reports to governments and large corporations like McDonald's.

In 1987, the company received its first investment fund, a US$5 billion fixed-income investment from the World Bank. In the mid-1980s, the company focused its business on bond and currency management for institutional investors. In 1990, Open officially began to provide currency management outsourcing products to its customers.
