I have been to Sanya countless times, and those famous scenic spots in the country are like a few treasures; Sometimes I just lie in the hotel and bask in the sun. A tourist destination without cultural background is soulless. If Sanya is the soul of Hainan, where is the soul of Sanya? History books give us an answer-Asia.

This issue of Journey of the Condor Heroes will take you to visit Yazhou District, the deepest part of Sanya. There are not only the "living specimens" of the Millennium ancient city at the southernmost tip of China, the traditional residential groups in Hainan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but also the largest port at the southernmost tip of China. The first stop arrived at the ancient city of Yazhou, which was once prosperous for a while, but now it has gradually faded out of people's sight. Yazhou Ancient City is located in Yazhou Town, Sanya City. It can be said that Yazhou ancient city is the southernmost Millennium ancient city in China, and its earliest historical roots can be traced back to the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

Passing through the only preserved "the first gate in southern Xinjiang" civilization gate in the ancient city, the mottled city walls are piled with time. After the disaster of the ancient city, only it still stands in the wind of the South China Sea. The neatly arranged city walls have brought a vibrant wind to this ancient city.

Many people think that Sanya is young, but we should know that people who came to Sanya in the Tang and Song Dynasties did not come to visit. Most of them are exiled officials, refugees, immigrants and so on. So Sanya changed from a refuge to a multi-ethnic settlement. After the prosperous population, under the leadership of exiled intellectuals and officials, Yazhou gradually became the political, cultural and economic center of Sanya. Mainland immigrants brought advanced farming techniques and promoted the development of local culture and education, thus the southernmost ancient city of China was formed.

Shaositu archway is behind the city gate, with four characters of "Virtue and Heaven" on the red wall, and the corresponding title behind the wall is "Taoist Temple in Ancient and Modern Times", which are the essence of Yacheng Gong Xue.

Yacheng Gong Xue is the highest institution of higher learning in Guya Prefecture and the southernmost Confucius Temple in China, with a history of more than 900 years. It has always been the center of Asian rights, and Gong Xue still retains rich historical and cultural heritage.

Along Gong Xue, Nanyang-style arcade old street is crowded with people, and children are carrying schoolbags and heading for today's cliff state Gong Xue.

Dongguan Street and Puzi City have the earliest old commercial buildings in Asia. These arcades built during the Republic of China have gone through many vicissitudes, and most of them have been renovated, and their original appearance has become blurred.

In the alley of backstreet, there are several brick buildings and ancient houses of Ming and Qing Dynasties in China, which, together with the newly-built modern buildings around them, have formed the unique features of Yazhou at present. All the way through the interweaving of history and modernity, I am filled with emotion! The ancients created centuries of glory, and now things are human beings, and things are human beings.

Compared with Sanya next door, Yazhou ancient town seems to have been forgotten, and there is very little visible history. Fortunately, its soul is still there. This ancient city with cultural accumulation and historical baptism is just waiting for people to regain it.

In order to better explore the ancient residential buildings in Yazhou, there is also a village in Bali, southwest of Yazhou District, Sanya. There are patches of ancient houses in the village, which exudes an ancient and awe-inspiring atmosphere. There are few tourists here, only local people live a life of peace and contentment day after day. This is Baoping Village.

Baoping Village is small in area, but it has a long history. Founded in the Tang Dynasty, it has a history of 1 100 years. It used to be a border town and the gateway to coastal defense of quaint mansion.

The old country road twists and turns. Closer to the village center, the newly-built Xiaoyanglou gradually disappears, the outer wall of the building becomes shorter and shorter, and the appearance of blue bricks and gray tiles becomes more mottled and vicissitudes. This is the best-preserved, largest and most concentrated traditional residential group in Ming and Qing Dynasties in Hainan Province.

There are almost no tourists here, only the local old people bask in the sun in the yard, continuing thousands of years of living habits, and the years are quiet.

Most of these well-preserved ancient Ming and Qing houses are quadrangles, bearing a heavy sense of history, and are now preserved as living specimens.

In the warm sunshine of Sanya, I strolled in various alleys and walked behind the deserted front yard. Ancient buildings tell distant stories, and lush greenery tells today's life. These ancient buildings have their own values in terms of historical value and architectural art.

At present, Baoping village is also facing the invasion of modernization, and there are houses built by villagers around it. As a representative building community in Hainan, its identity will not change.

This traditional village not only has the "skin" of ancient buildings, but also the villagers' persistent inheritance of the "soul" of original ecological culture. There is no pseudo-culture, no pseudo-folk customs, which is probably its charm.

Now Baoping Village has won the title of national intangible cultural heritage protection and famous Chinese historical and cultural village, and is also undergoing the transformation of public facilities. May this architectural community representing the ancient soul of Sanya never disappear.
