Why do most of Hainan people's ancestors come from Sugarcane Garden Village in Putian, Fujian?

In recent years, people from Guangdong and Hainan have sent delegations to Putian to seek roots, saying that their ancestors moved from Putian "sugarcane garden" to Guangdong and Hainan, and asked to see their hometown "sugarcane garden" now; At the same time, some comrades in our city often meet "folks who can't speak Putian dialect" in Guangdong and Hainan. They often report themselves and take the initiative to recognize their ancestors. Their ancestors moved from Putian "sugarcane garden" to Guangdong and Hainan for several generations. I wonder how the hometown of "Sugarcane Garden" is now? These situations show that many Putian people migrated to other places in history, especially in Guangdong and Hainan, and their starting places were almost all concentrated on the symbolic place name "sugarcane garden". This situation is very similar to that passed down from generation to generation by immigrants from the Central Plains. I always remember the place name "Dahuashu in Hongtong County" in my hometown. The problem now is that the comrades in Putian, whether they are looking for roots or going out to Hainan, Guangdong, can't tell the location of the "sugarcane garden" they refer to, and of course they can't tell the recent situation of the haunting hometown "sugarcane garden". This is a very regrettable thing. Experts and scholars in the field of Putian literature and history can do nothing about this. Because of the map and related information, there is no such place name as "sugarcane garden" in Puxian County. After several months' investigation and study, CPPCC reached the preliminary conclusion that "sugarcane garden is now the sugarcane garden in Jinshan Village, Longhua Town, Xianyou County".

Although there is no place name "Sugarcane Garden" in the city, a small village called "Sugarcane Garden" was found in Jinshan Village, Longhua Town, Xianyou County. After visiting the old people in Jinshan Village, they all said that in Xianyou dialect, "sugarcane garden" means "sugarcane garden", and the villagers used to call it "sugarcane garden". Now some people call it "Sugarcane Garden" and others call it "Sugarcane Garden", which means the same thing. I checked the ancient land register of Xianyou, and recorded a small village in Jinshan Village, Longhua Town with the place name of "Zhepu Garden".

"Cane Garden" is a unique place name in Xianyou County and even Putian City, because there are no places called "Cane Garden" or "Cane Garden" in more than 300 villages and towns in Xianyou County/Kloc-0.

"Zhepu Garden" is worthy of the name. Since ancient times, the main business here has been planting and squeezing sugar cane to make sugar, and the stone drum in the existing sugar workshop is the best witness.

Although this place is isolated from the world today, it was a prosperous area in ancient times. Because it is just at the junction of Xianyou, Jinjiang, Nan 'an and Yongchun counties, it is a transportation hub with several passages, post stations, racecourses and roads. In ancient times, many people came and went here. Among them, Chen Shu, a famous calligrapher in the Southern Song Dynasty, wrote an inscription here. Chen Shu was a scholar in the sixth year of Longxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1 163), assistant minister of the Ministry of War, and Hou of Qingyuan County. His inscription on this topic proved that this place was very famous at that time.

"Zhepu Garden" has a history of residents moving out. From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, bandits frequently occurred here, the environment became worse and worse, and some residents moved out one after another. Far away, in Jinsha Village, Jinjian Village and Jinxi Village alone, thousands of people confirmed that Chen had moved out of Zhepu Garden, leaving only 17 households with 75 people.

There are precedents for folks at home and abroad to come to "Zhepu Garden" to seek roots and worship their ancestors. For example, in 2004, Chen Xiubing, an overseas Chinese in Thailand, and Zhuang, director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, jointly wrote to the Chen Committee of the Xianyou County Surname Culture Research Association, demanding to find their ancestral home. After careful investigation, the Xianyou Chen Committee confirmed that Chen Xiubing and Zhuang were descendants of Xianyou Chen and the ancestors of immortals. Chen Kemin, the 17th grandson of Chen Qi, went to Hainan (Qiongzhou Road) as a messenger of peace, and his family moved to Hainan, becoming the ancestor of the Yangtian Yan School in Qiongzhou, creating the Kemin lineage in Qiongzhou. Kemin originally belonged to the Chen pedigree of Zhejiang Park in Xianyou Jinshan, based on the existing Chen pedigree of Zhejiang Park. Based on this, it is speculated that Chen Xiubing and Zhuang's ancestral home is Xianyou Jinshan "Sugarcane Puyuan", which is consistent with Zhuang's self-report that "ancestors moved out of Xianyou Sugarcane Garden 300 years ago". At present, the relevant parties in Xianyou have invited Chen Xiubing and Chen Jie Zhuang Hui to visit the "Sugarcane Garden" to worship their ancestors and hold social activities.

On this basis, CPPCC will further seek more powerful evidence to assist the county party committee and government of Xianyou County to seriously develop and construct the "sugarcane garden", so that this ancestral home concerned by many villagers at home and abroad can truly become a link to connect with the villagers and enhance the nostalgia.
