Linzhi, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Tibet Autonomous Region, was called the Ministry of Industry in ancient times. Linzhi is a transliteration of Nichi or Nian Chi in Tibetan, which means "the throne of the family or the throne of the sun". Linzhi is located in the southeast of Xizang Autonomous Region, in the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, between 26 52' and 30 40' north latitude and 92 09' and 98 47' east longitude.

It borders Changdu and Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province in the east, Lhasa and Shannan in the west, Naqu in the north and Myanmar and India in the south. Linzhi area is 646.7 kilometers long from east to west, 353.2 kilometers wide from north to south, and the border line is about 1000 kilometers long. Bayi Town, where the regional administrative office is located, is 3000 meters above sea level and more than 400 kilometers away from Lhasa, the capital of the autonomous region.

Climate:

The Himalayas and Nyainqentanglha Mountains extend in parallel from west to east, and are connected with Hengduan Mountains in the east. There is a big gap in the Indian Ocean just below the southeast. The Indian Ocean warm current along the river and the northern cold current meet and stay in the east of Nyainqentanglha Mountain, resulting in a variety of climatic zones where tropical, subtropical, temperate and cold climates coexist in Linzhi.

Warm currents from two oceans flow in all the year round, forming Linzhi's special tropical humid and semi-humid climate, with annual rainfall of about 650 mm, annual average temperature of 8.7℃, annual average sunshine of 2022.2 hours and frost-free period 180 days. Linzhi City is located in the middle and lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River. The west and southwest are connected with Lhasa and Shannan respectively, the east and north are connected with Changdu and Naqu respectively, and the south is bordered by India and Myanmar. It is called southern Tibet and has the deepest canyon in the world: Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon.
