At present, the legal retirement age for primary and secondary school teachers is still 60 years old for male teachers and 55 years old for female teachers. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences recently issued a recommendation to delay retirement in two steps: complete the integration of the pension system in 2017, cancel the status distinction between female cadres and female workers, and set the female retirement age for employee pension insurance to be 55 years old. Starting from 2018, the retirement age for women will be delayed by one year every three years, and the retirement age for men will be delayed by one year every six years until they reach 65 years old at the same time in 2045.

The current age limit is 60 years old for men and 55 years old for women. According to this regulation, currently, the retirement age varies depending on the county, city, and district where teachers are located. Ordinary teachers in the same county, city, or district retire five years later than leaders, or even longer. Anyone who has not retired before 2018 will be affected. Moreover, women born after 1990 and men born after 1985 will retire at the age of 65, which is longer than before.
